Aligners technology and the need for digital models.
In the invisible orthodontics based on aligners, the use of models is essential to complete the orthodontic documentation. Only in this way is a correct diagnosis and planning achieved.
3D Digitalized Model
Likewise, the study models offer a documentation of the patient’s evolution throughout the treatment.
Traditionally, study models are obtained by making an impression of the patient’s teeth and then emptying them with plaster.
With the evolution of CAD-CAM technology, it is now possible to have a 3D model but in digital format to view it on the computer or print it with 3D printers
Scan
Scanning or scanning is the process by which the patient’s teeth are introduced into the world of computers.
The scanning can be done using two methods:
- Scanning the gypsum model
Directly in the mouth with the use of the intraoral scanner.
This digitalization represents an important evolution in dental documentation. Offering multiple benefits for both the patient and the dentist.
Use of digital models
The introduction of digital models allowed the development of a virtual configuration, which is used to verify dental movement. In this configuration, the gradual movements are verified until the desired position is reached.
From the digital models, it is possible to make resin models. A series of models of these in 3D is used for aesthetic aligners.
The literature shows that digital models are more accurate and reliable than traditional gypsum models.
Benefits of digital models.
Among the benefits provided by digital models are:
- Greater agility at work.
- Greater ease of communication with other professionals and laboratory.
- Reduction of physical storage space.
- Opens the possibility of easy duplication of each model.
- When using the intraoral scanner, there is no need to take impressions, which increases the patient’s comfort.
- The virtual configuration is faster and easier to compare with the traditional configuration
Aligners and Digital Models
This digital technology is present in the manufacture of transparent aligners or invisible aligners (aligners)
Dental aligners are transparent devices that are indicated for cases of simple to moderate malocclusion.
Our invisible orthodontic laboratory Smile Aligner produces digital models in a virtual configuration for the fabrication of aligners.
In addition, the aligners are customized, aesthetic and removable, able to produce dental movements, between 0.25 mm and 0.33 mm per stadium or aligner.
For treatment with aligners to be effective, they must be used at least 22 hours a day. They are hardly extracted for oral hygiene and feeding. They should also be changed every 15 days, until the treatment ends.
